According to Anne Heche‘s rep, the actress’ condition following Friday’s terrifying car crash is apparently much worse than originally thought.
As we reported days ago, the film star was involved in a horrifying, high-speed car accident in the Mar Vista area of west Los Angeles. The crash caused a house to catch on fire and displace a family from the location. Now, we are learning more about the apparently extremely grave injuries Heche herself suffered during the incident.
In a statement to Deadline that was first released on Monday afternoon, the star’s rep says:
“At this time Anne is in extreme critical condition. She has a significant pulmonary injury requiring mechanical ventilation and burns that require surgical intervention. She is in a coma and has not regained consciousness since shortly after the accident.”
According to multiple media reports that covered the scary crash on scene at the time, dozens of firefighters from multiple departments responded to battle the blaze as it engulfed the car and the home.
A statement from the Los Angeles Fire Department confirmed as much, per Fox News (below):
“Fifty-nine firefighters took 65 minutes to access, confine and fully extinguish the stubborn flames within the heavily damaged structure and rescued one female adult found within the vehicle who has been taken to an area hospital by LAFD Paramedics in critical condition.”
Heche was inside the car for roughly 65 minutes during the horrifying fire, per Deadline. The outlet notes she was “reportedly able to communicate” with first responders at the time of the scary collision, “but lost consciousness shortly thereafter.” Now, we have learned she has not yet regained consciousness. So scary.
As we’ve been reporting, there has been quite a bit of speculation surrounding Heche’s overall condition in the moments prior to the fiery accident. She was involved in a minor car accident elsewhere in Mar Vista, blocks away from the final crash site, just moments before the fire. She was also filmed driving erratically and speeding through the residential neighborhood.
To make matters even worse, someone photographed her with what allegedly appeared to be an alcohol bottle inside her car moments before the accident. The LAPD is now investigating whether she may have been under the influence during the horrific incident.
Coincidentally, Heche recorded a podcast last week in which she could be heard slurring her speech, according to Deadline. Producers of that podcast confirmed it was recorded earlier in the week, on Tuesday, and not prior to the accident on Friday morning. Nevertheless, they removed the podcast from online sites amid misinformation.
Such an awful, awful thing for everybody involved. We really feel for the people who lost their home in the horrible fire. And we hope Anne can physically recover from this scary and very serious health situation.
