Spaniard Albert Ramos-Vinolas won against Argentinian Diego Schwartzman, the No 12 seed, 6-4, 6-2 to reach the last 16 of the Montreal Masters at Stade IGA on Wednesday night.
Ramos-Vinolas, ranked No 43, will face Pole Hubert Hurkacz, the No 8 seed, next.
The 34-year-old Spaniard defeated Belgian wildcard David Goffin (7-6 (2), 6-2) ahead of his victory.
In the previous round of the Coupe Rogers, Schwartzman, ranked No 15, edged out Spaniard Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (1-6, 6-3, 6-4).
